Traveling through Vietnam by train can be the most memorable and rewarding way to experience and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam. Mostly they take about 7-11 days of travelling to touch it all. Along the way, feast on one of the world’s most and to meet the friendly local people. The trains are safe, comfortable and inexpensive, the ideal way for independent travellers to get around and see Vietnam at ground level. The train journeys are also an experience in themselves, and become an integral part of your visit to Vietnam. Don’t mistakenly think you’ll lose time compared to flying - an overnight train ride from Hanoi to Hue or Danang is not only more of an experience, and cheaper, than flying, it’ll save time compared to 4 or 5 daytime hours of airports and airline check-ins, too! And what’s the rush?
Train Classes: There are four classes of train travel offered in most trains: hard-seat, soft-seat, hard-berth, soft-berth.
-Hard-seat is tolerable for day travel, but it can be even less comfortable than the bus overnight.
-Hard-berth has three tiers of beds (it means six beds per compartment). The upper berth is cheapest and the lower berth is most expensive.
-Soft-seat includes vinyl-covered seats, more comfortable than benches of hard-seat, but rather hot if without air-conditioner in the summer.
-Soft-berth has two tiers of beds (four beds per compartment), the price for each bunks are the same. These compartments have a door.

Booking ticket: It’s easy to book train tickets at the station reservation office when you get to Vietnam. It’s not difficult to book a soft sleeper a few days in advance, especially if you can be a bit flexible over your exact choice of train or departure date.
