-Do some research for your destination and plan it carefully.
-Make sure you know the approximate time of your arrival because stations are not well sign posted and the conductor is barely audible when he announces the train station.
-Look for the most direct route to a destination to reduce or avoid the necessity of changing trains. This will reduce stress of the trip and the chances of missing a connecting train as a result of delays. It also reduces the risk of losing luggage.
-If the trip is longer than six hours, consider travelling at night and booking a sleeper car. It is more expensive to book sleepers, but it is worth it for a long trip.
-Be on time, or early. Though trains have a reputation for running late, they always seem to run early when you are running late to catch them.
-Services in the late evening or early morning are often sparse and not entirely safe.
-Don’t leave luggage unguarded on the train or in the station.
-On night trains, secure baggage to the rack with a small bicycle lock.
-Be aware that it can be very expensive in some countries to travel by train. Especially high speed trains can be as expensive such as Japan.
-If you take photographs through the window, it helps avoid reflectons if you hold your lens almost against the window pane.
-Bring food and snacks. Traditionally train cuisine is over-priced and very bad,Pack some snacks for your trip to avoid going hungry or broke.
-Pack some disinfectant handiwipes. Like onboard bus bathrooms, train bathrooms leave a lot to be desired. Given the length of your trip, you’ll probably be visiting the facilities so plan ahead.
